Isaiah 62:1-6

Beloved of Christ! I know the past two years were very challenging years and many are not sure what will become of the New Year; But the Lord says that 2022 shall be for you the Year of FAVOR!

Jesus is speaking through this scripture to you today; He is reminding you that, He is anointed (chosen, prepared and sent) for this specific purpose. This passage only makes sense if we know who Jesus is, and whether He has obeyed and completed His mission.

Beloved! He is anointed to do the following for you this year: • Bring good news to the poor (Isa 61:1b) • Bind up the brokenhearted (Isa 61:1c) • Proclaim liberty to the captives (Isa 61:1d) • Open the prison to those who are bound (Isa 61:1e) • Proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and day of vengeance (Isa 61:2a) • To comfort all who mourn (Isa 61:2b)

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus quoted from this passage. He declares that He is the one who fulfills this text. Jesus is declaring to you this year; that He is that one that God has chosen, prepared and sent to accomplish all that is mentioned in Isaiah 61:1-3. In the Old Testament, God established what is called the Year of Jubilee (Lev 25:8-55). Every fiftieth year Israel was to take the whole year off, cancel all debts, return to all family property the original owners that had been sold and generally be kind and generous to everyone. According to Lev 25:10; Everyone’s job for a whole year was to proclaim liberty throughout the land. This was giving a picture of the liberation of Christ (Gal 5:1)... The cross cancels all our debts. God says we’re free to leave the past behind and move on with joyous relief.”

In Israel; the time of the Lords favor is like a Jubilee year; in a Jubilee year everything would be reset and start from zero. All savings and accumulation were meant to be shared and God's people would not be unequal. This was a way of achieving social equity. Everyone would start over again on the basis of God's provision. This is what the coming of Christ meant, not just in a mere financial and material sense. Jesus came to bring equality. He came to proclaim freedom to those that feel bound in anyway.

Jesus came to proclaim good news. He proclaims freedom for those who feel they are trapped. He came to proclaim comfort too those who are mourning. He gives "those who mourn in Zion" three things. The servant grants "a beautiful headdress instead of ashes", "the oil of gladness instead of mourning" and "the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit".

Ashes was used for mourning, during big loss. It was a sign of sorrow and sadness. Now to receive a beautiful headdress is a symbol of trading mourning for glory. And also instead of a broken heart, the Lord gives a garment of praise to cover the brokenhearted.

This year the Lord is bringing gladness and joy to a people that would otherwise be wallowing in sadness and depression. You have suffered so much pain and you have been asking, when will God remember me: The Lord will do all these things this year for you this year, You will receive alot of Good news, than ever before. Whatever has been troubling you, He will be your comfort You shall enjoy favor like never before in the name of Jesus. And you know favor brigs open doors, promotion, blessings, great opportunities etc in the name of Jesus. You shall be amazed at what He will do in your life because of His favor..

Jesus is working now to bring good news so that you can receive the beautiful headdress, oil of gladness and a garment of praise. So beloved spend more time with the one we love and who loves us in 2022.

What will happen and what you will be able to do this Year? In Verse 4, we read that these people will "build up the ancient ruins", "raise up the former devastations", "repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations". This speaks about the restoration of God's people. Many have made resolutions at the start of the year, it is easy to make resolutions to improve on the mistakes of the previous year, but nothing comes out.

This scripture is speaking to those of us who feel devastated and hopeless. He is telling you that our Lord is a Builder, and Restorer. Today, he is telling you, no matter how bad your situation has been; you may not be able to build yourself up. Let us cling to the promises in this text. He then goes ahead to describe a series of changes that the people of Zion will experience in verses 5-7. he says; the people of God will stop being shepherds (agriculture) and plowmen and vinedressers (horticulture) because foreigners now come and take these jobs, but now become priests and ministers (i.e. servants) of God. This is not merely a job change. He has moved on from a literal job but to a spiritual one. What does this mean for us today?

The people of God also who once had shame and dishonor, now is their time for honor, They've traded their shame and dishonor, for greater blessings this year. It won't be an equal swop, for they will receive something more ("everlasting joy"). God wants to change who His people are, and because of who they are, what they have. Some of us may feel like we only have shame and ruin. But this does not deter Him. He promises to come and take our ruins and shame and turn it into something better. This promise is not just the promise of physical things, there is more to it. It extends to spiritual blessings that is yet to come.

God wants us to have the physical blessings like; land, property, money and He also wants to give us everlasting joy. He wants to give you more than you think you want, ask or imagine. If I may ask; Who are you today? You are not just a business man or an employee. If you are in Christ, you are a rebuilt city, a priest and minister of the Lord. He wants you to be a priest, the boss, the employer, the minister of the Lord in 2022 and the years ahead, in the name of Jesus. Come and meet with Him, and seek His will on how you can obey Him to be His priests and ministers where you are. Don't watch Him at a distance in this new year. God promises to give what is due His people, and He will make an everlasting covenant. This is a God who is holy and declares what is true. As a result, His people will be blessed (v.9). They will be so blessed, that everyone will know! Our God is good, righteous, and just, but is also kind, faithful to His people and is a God of blessing. Hallelujah” Glory to God from whom all blessings flow". God is a God of blessing. Every good gift is from above and He does not change like men do. His blessings might not take the form we want, but He blesses. This Year, He will greatly bless you and your family because it is the Year of His Favor!

You may not believe everything or understand what we have shared because of your situation; but trust in His promises and cling by faith to what He has declared. It's only faith that can connect us to His promises for us this year.

May you enjoy the Lord’s favour this year in the name of Jesus.
Love and Blessings
